Kick off this Season with Crazy Spicy Chicken Wings

Are you ready for some football????

I sure am! Or maybe it’s just the food. Fans take their food seriously just like their football: sliders straight off the grill, slices of sausage, piles of potato chips, dozens of dips, and buckets of ice cold beer to wash it all down. Hmmm…once it all hits your lips, how can it not taste so good?! However, there’s one food that I need to kick the season off right…chicken wings. I can almost taste that sweet, savory, and SPICY (my favorite) sauce on my tongue right now! Just before each game, we used to fight through the crowds just to snatch a seat at our beloved beer and wing spots. But after many hours of waiting and many bar-fight bruises, I thought, “why can’t we make just our own wings? If they can do it, why can’t we?!” So that’s what I did. Screw waiting around trying to score a seat! I’ve got the best seat in town and the best wings to go with it – all right in front of MY own big screen TV. So, let’s get ready to kick off this season with my now FAMOUS “Run and Skip Naked Spicy” chicken wings.

Now to select the best players for the team:

1 package of chicken wings (about 1.5 – 2 pounds)
Goya Adobo Seasoning sin pimento (w/o pepper) or Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning
Ranch dip packet (optional) or chicken seasoning (Garlic powder, Onion powder, Salt, Pepper)
Vegetable Oil
2 tbsp butter
1 cup (or more) Hooter’s 3 Mile Island wing sauce (comes in 12 oz jar, or use your favorite wing sauce)
2 tbsp Stubb’s wicked chicken wing sauce (optional, use any crazy hot sauce)
1/2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1/2 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tbsp onion powder
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp paprika
1 pinch (< 1/8 tsp) Hot Shot! (red pepper seasoning)
1/8 tsp black pepper

To get in shape for the big game, season the chicken lightly with Abodo (or chicken seasoning) and Ranch packet (optional). If you have time, let the chicken chill overnight with the seasoning. It will help them to bond with their teammates, creating an even better flavor on the field (a.k.a. your plate).
Warm up on the field by filling a large pot up with about 3/4 inch of oil and turning your stove to medium. Bring on the heat baby!

Once the oil is nice and hot, send out your players (wings) one-by-one onto the field (pot).

Game on! Let those wings strut their stuff and sizzle in the first play. When they begin to brown, flip them over so they cook evenly on both sides. A winning team needs both a good offense and defense!

As the game goes on and the wings heat up the field, it’s time to prepare for the special play – the sauce. On the side, warm up and melt your butter in a small saucepan on medium heat.

Bring in the rest of the team for a huddle: wing sauce, hot sauce, worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, red pepper, and black pepper. Go over the plan then send them into the pot.

Bring the team together and give them a pep talk: it’s time to be the best sauce there ever was. Go Team!

Turn the heat on low and occasionally stir – we don’t want the other team to suspect a thing.

Only one more timeout left in the game. The players (wings) are ready and perfectly browned. Turn off the heat for the oil and sauce – you don’t want to overheat the players.

Pull your players out and let them rest on paper towel to remove any excess sweat (oil). It’s almost time.

Hut Hut! It’s the play you’ve been waiting for your entire life. Start moving the wings into a medium sized bowl.

As the wings are into perfectly into place, toss in your secret weapon (the sauce) and dash over the field (bowl). As the sauce makes the special run and covers the wings…

Touchdown!!! You’ve made the PERFECT play and are now the champion of chicken wings! You’ve successfully covered the wings and won the big game. This, of course, calls for a celebration dance. Now get down and dig in! It’s time for those flavors to dance all over your taste buds and into your mouth.

Don’t forget to congratulate the coach! Grab a bucket, pop open a beer, and douse your mouth with a cold one. After a long game and a successful win in the kitchen, you definitely deserve it!
